IBM Unveils Sub-1nm Chip with 100 Billion Transistors
IBM has built a prototype chip with around 100 billion transistors on a fingernail-sized area, doubling the density of its 2021 technology. The design could enable faster, more energy-efficient computers and help extend Moore's Law for another decade. The chip uses a new nanosheet architecture to achieve sub-1nm features.
Meridian48 take
This is a significant engineering milestone, but commercial viability and mass production remain years away, so temper expectations.
