Where does this data come from?
Three streams. (1) Official company announcements, SEC filings, and earnings calls; (2) confirmed reporting in The Information, TechCrunch, Wamda, MAGNiTT, and local outlets; (3) confirmed on-record statements from affected employees or their LinkedIn updates. We do not include rumours or unsourced X/Twitter posts.
Why are global firms like Google and Amazon listed?
Big-tech global layoffs frequently affect Pakistan-based engineers working remotely or in regional offices. When we have confirmation that Pakistan-based roles were included in a global layoff, we list the event with the regional impact noted. The headcount column reflects the total layoff size; the notes mention Pakistan-specific impact where known.
Are there layoffs you don't list?
Yes. Three categories don't appear here: (1) attrition-via-PIPs (performance improvement plans used as quiet layoffs); (2) contractor or vendor cuts unless the firm announces them; (3) layoffs at companies under 30 employees, which rarely have media coverage. Layoffs.fyi maintains a broader global database; we focus on MENAP and Pakistan-relevant events.
What's happening in Pakistan tech right now?
The pattern since late 2024 has been bridge-round failures and pivot-driven cuts at Series A/B startups, rather than late-stage hyperscale cuts (which Pakistan hasn't really had). The fintech and logistics sectors have been most affected. ML/AI hiring is the exception: most Pakistan-based AI roles are being added, not cut.
