Study: Google's AI Overviews cite #1 result only 49% of the time
A study of 120 commercial keywords found that 77% trigger an AI Overview, but the top organic result is cited only 49% of the time. A third of cited pages are not in the organic top 10, and YouTube and Reddit account for 20% of all citations. Google's two AI search modes share just 16% of citations on average.
