Rapidus to Undercut TSMC on 2nm Wafer Pricing at $20,000
Japanese chipmaker Rapidus plans to price its 2nm-class wafers at around $20,000 when production starts in 2027, undercutting TSMC's expected pricing. The strategy aims to attract customers by offering lower quotes for advanced silicon. Rapidus is building a fab in Hokkaido with government support to compete in the leading-edge chip market.
Meridian48 take
The pricing promise is aggressive, but Rapidus must prove it can deliver on yield and volume to truly challenge TSMC's dominance.
