WebAssembly on the Server: Lightweight Alternative to Containers

WebAssembly (Wasm) is moving beyond browsers to server-side and edge computing, offering near-instant cold starts and minimal memory footprint compared to traditional containers. WASI enables safe interaction with host systems, but debugging and library support remain immature. The technology is promising for high-density, low-latency tasks but won't replace containers for all workloads soon.
