Unity Replaces Mono with CoreCLR in Major Runtime Overhaul
Unity is replacing its Mono scripting runtime with Microsoft's CoreCLR, starting as an experimental option in Unity 6.7 alpha. The migration brings a modern garbage collector, improved iteration times, and access to .NET 10 and C# 14, but Mono will be removed entirely in Unity 6.8. Developers should test in 6.7 but not ship on it until the runtime stabilizes.

The move is overdue but wise; however, Unity's track record with major transitions means studios should budget for unexpected breakage and performance regressions before the full cutover.
