O2 to Shut Down 2G Network by Summer 2029

O2 has announced it will switch off its 2G network starting in summer 2029, joining other UK carriers in retiring the legacy technology. The move affects not only old phones but also millions of smart meters and telecare alarms that still rely on 2G. O2 plans a phased transition to ensure critical services migrate before the shutdown completes.
