The archived kafka-lag-exporter is being replaced by klag, a GraalVM native tool for monitoring consumer lag in Kafka and Redpanda. It offers lower broker overhead, time-based lag estimation, and OpenTelemetry support. klag runs on about 50 MB memory and includes an MCP server for AI-native integration.
