Home-Built CubeSat to Run TinyLlama LLM in Orbit This Fall
Ken Chan built KENSAT, a 2U CubeSat with an NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano running a quantized TinyLlama LLM, in his home lab. The satellite will perform AI inference in orbit, transmitting only results via UHF radio to save power. Launch is scheduled for fall 2025, with all hardware and software open-sourced on GitHub.

Impressive as a hobbyist feat, but the real test will be whether TinyLlama can deliver useful inference under space constraints—or if this is more a proof of concept than a practical tool.
