Claude Code's 'who are you' query ballooned to 42,000 tokens

A developer found that asking Claude Code 'who are you' triggered a 118,693-byte request, 6,200x larger than the 19-byte question. Tool schemas and system prompts made up 99.98% of the payload, with 44,392 bytes of English prose shipped on every query. The 42,000 tokens consumed highlight massive overhead in AI coding assistants.
