AWS Quietly Launches Lambda MicroVMs: Stateful Serverless Up to 8 Hours

AWS launched Lambda MicroVMs on June 22, 2026, a new compute primitive between stateless Lambda functions and full EC2 VMs. Each MicroVM runs as an isolated Firecracker VM with its own HTTPS endpoint, supporting stateful workloads up to 8 hours. The author tested it with a Python HTTP server, confirming suspend/resume functionality and persistent state across requests.
